I know my attitude toward work has had it’s good times and has had it’s bad times. There are days in which I have been totally driven and others which I am not so proud of my effort.

Most often thankfulness, or the lack thereof, is the key issue.

Am I able to provide for myself and my family in some way by doing work?

If the answer is yes, then some gratitude is necessary or you submarine the situation you are in.

You may dislike your job, your boss, or the money you make, but if your working be thankful your are. Because not working is brutal on a guys spirit.

Knowing the truth about how God sees work will shine light on what a True Man’s mindset should be in those times we want to throw in the towel.

The verses I have listed say a ton. If you don’t feel them, then tell God you don’t and ask for help.

Somebody once said: Don’t do what you want to do. Do what needs to get done. When left to how our mind feels one day, as opposed to an objective standard, often leads to less than desirable results.

This is a link to a John MacArthur article on work. Two pages with 20 points to think about.

Proverbs 18:9 Whoever is slack in his work is a brother to him who destroys.

Proverbs 22:29 Do you see a man skillful in his work? He will stand before kings; he will not stand before obscure men.

Colossians 3:23-24 Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.

Proverbs 10:4 A slack hand causes poverty, but the hand of the diligent makes rich.

Proverbs 12:11 Whoever works his land will have plenty of bread, but he who follows worthless pursuits lacks sense.

1 Thessalonians 4:11-12 …and to aspire to live quietly, and to mind your own affairs, and to work with your hands, as we instructed you, so that you may walk properly before outsiders and be dependent on no one.

2 Thessalonians 3:10-12 For even when we were with you, we would give you this command: If anyone is not willing to work, let him not eat. For we hear that some among you walk in idleness, not busy at work, but busybodies. Now such persons we command and encourage in the Lord Jesus Christ to do their work quietly and to earn their own living.

Proverbs 24:30 I passed by the field of a sluggard, by the vineyard of a man lacking sense, and behold, it was all overgrown with thorns; the ground was covered with nettles, and its stone wall was broken down.

Then I saw and considered it; I looked and received instruction.

A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest, and poverty will come upon you like a robber, and want like an armed man.
